Samsung LE40N73 40in LCD TV

With most manufacturers now comfortable with the basics of LCD TV production, were starting to see a sudden, widespread and welcome charge to tackle the seemingly intractable technological problems that are arguably stoping big-screen LCDs from reaching the same giddy picture quality heights as the best plasmas out there.

In the case of Samsungs 40in LE40N73, this problem solving drive is focused on the rather key area of colour. Usually LCDs struggle to deliver a wide and believable colour range, but Samsung has come up with what it claims is a solution in the form of eXtended Wide Colour Gamut (XWCG): a new backlight phosphor solution that apparently produces up to 30 per cent more of the real world colour gamut than LCD can usually manage.

Well get to whether this new feature works shortly, but in the meantime weve got some genuinely extravagant aesthetics to cover.

StarHub Launches HDTV Platform

SINGAPORE, January 18: Singapore has become the first Southeast Asian nation to offer commercial HDTV services, with the launch of StarHubs HD Plus today featuring Discovery HD and National Geographic Channel HD.

The launch follows StarHubs successful HDTV trial that kicked off with the 2006 FIFA World Cup and ended at the close of the year. During this trial, 1,000 StarHub Digital Cable could access 64 World Cup matches and titles from Discovery and National Geographic Channel.

We are very excited about our HDTV launch, and are proud that we are the first operator in Southeast Asia to introduce the service commercially, said Terry Clontz, StarHubs president and CEO. StarHub is constantly enhancing its customers TV viewing experience. Our introductions of Digital Cable in 2004, Demand TV in 2005 and Smart TV in 2006 are examples of how we give customers more control over what they watch, and when they watch their favorite programs.

Get ready for Crafts and Hobbies HD!

In a series of CRTC broadcasting decisions issued today, the government has approved broadcasting licenses for High Fidelity HDTV Inc. to operate six new Category 2 specialty programming undertaking in Canada.

The sextet of potentially new HD channels include: Eureka HD, Centre Stage HD, Seniors HD, Aqua HD, Women's Sports HD and Crafts & Hobbies HD and would be the big brother and sisters to High Fidelity's Baby HD. Baby HD was approved by the CRTC in November of last year.

Although the licenses have been approved, High Fidelity has up to six years before each licence will expire therefore it may be sometime before the stations reach the airwaves.

Eureka HD would consist of specialty programming exploring issues related to science and technology.
